flash back to summer
by Sylvia C.
it was one of those
hot summer days
I was dripping with sweat
After being outside 4-and-a-half
minutes
And it was only 9 a.m.
And I thought,
“how much worse could it get?
there isn’t anything one can do
in this sweltering heat.”
So I decided I would stay inside
All afternoon, and perhaps even for
The rest of the summer,
To hide from the suffocation
All the time wondering,
“how far away are the
breezy days of fall?
How many more
Sweat stained mornings
Should I expect?”
The thick air had me
In its grip, and the
Heat continued in full force.
I decided
I would, in fact,
stay inside until the leaves
Turned orange, red, and brown.
Now, I’m just waiting for spring
Apologizing
for my lack of
Resilience,
praying for a glimpse of sunshine
