Academia

Academia
By Ariel Cade

Academia.
Perhaps it should
be called
Aca-DAMN-nia,
for we realize
we are doomed.
It certainly
is not
Aca-DAME-ia,
the way women
are mistreated
as they try
to survive.
Perhaps it is
Aca-DEEM-ia,
since someone silent
and in power
deems our fates.
Often, it feels like
Aca-DUMB-nia,
between silly rules
and clueless students.

Ariel Cade believes she did something very, very bad in a previous life and was sent to Purgatory in guise of graduate student as punishment.
